The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) condemns in the strongest terms the decision by the Harare City Council to bar commuters from entering the city center and relocating bus terminuses to the periphery of the city.
This highly unpopular and insensitive move was done without consulting stakeholders and has seriously inconvenienced workers and other commuters. More so, workers have to cough extra money to get into the city center.
We call upon the City Council to immediately reverse this move, and if they do not do so, the ZCTU will be forced to initiate court proceedings seeking to reverse the council’s decision.
The ZCTU will also mobilize workers and residents into action against the Harare City Council that will see the shutdown of businesses in the city. Workers should demand the end of this madness by remaining at the drop off points until they get free transport into town.
