Leaks of Examination Paper is a sign of a Rotten System

12 Feb 2018

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) notes with concern the reports of a leak in the O' Level English Paper 2 Examination Paper. This is a clear sign of a rotten system that needs serous investigations.

What is more worrying is that it is the parents who will bear the cost of the leakage as their children are being made to re-write the examination. The ZCTU believes that there is a syndicate that has been leaking exam papers for money and they were making a killing. These could be people from the Ministry of Education, those who set the papers, the printers and school headmasters.

The ZCTU demands a full and unfettered investigation into the examination system in this country. Anyone found to have been an accessory to the leakage must face justice. The current events have had a serious impact on the credibility of our education system. What is also shocking is that it took so long for the government to make a decision, yet they had detected the anomalies last year. For the Education Minister, out of the blue, to cancel the results and order a re-sit within a week is highly insensitive to parents whose children might be out of the country or live far away from examination centers..
